Ten Years Later, This Property is Still the Homeowner’s Dream
Built in Greek Revival style to suit the homeowner’s designers for a stately home in rural Tennessee, this home continues to stand the test of time.
Nearly a decade after his dream home was built on a plot of land in Lieper’s Fork, Tom Jellison wouldn’t change a thing — well, maybe the depth of the cabinets, if he had to pick something. Tom and Sue Jellison first turned to custom home builder Castle Homes, who developed the plan for a Greek Revival home suitable for guests while giving the homeowners a place to comfortably spend their time alone between travels back and forth to Indiana. They found a large lot in Lieper’s Fork after being smitten with nearby downtown Franklin but lured in by the promise of room to spread out in the nearby small town.
“The couple had been looking in Lieper’s Fork and Franklin for a historic Greek Revival home, but everything they encountered needed a lot of work. When facing massive renovations on that scale, it makes sense to consider building a new home with historical elements to get the look you desire,” Castle Home’s Founder Alan Looney explains. “In this case, we started sketching and did extensive research to properly capture the elements of a Greek Revival home the couple wanted.”
The team delivered historically relevant details at every turn. The front-facing exterior, for example, shows large columns and pediments, windows and gables, expansive porches that offer views of the 40-acre lot, and grand entryways. As you access the property from Hillsboro Road, the tree-lined driveway lands you at the front of the property, marked by a replica of a Civil War-era cannon. Elsewhere on the property, you will find an equine barn, paddocks, and a shooting range.
Historical elements are carried inside, where you are greeted by a curved stairwell overlooking the spacious entryway. From here, you can move into the dining room, study, and main gathering room, where the homeowners spend most of their time. The moulding details cannot be overlooked, as they speak to the Greek Revival style that continues through the interior. “The style and materials can withstand the test of time,” Looney reminds us, although the evidence is in the quality of the home as it stands ten years later.
“The house and the property are outstanding,” Tom says. “It took a great team effort, and Castle Homes did an outstanding job. Doing business with them is like doing business with family; all of the people involved in our project became very good friends, and although it is a business transaction, very nice relationships were developed.”
With only one decade behind them, the couple looks forward to enjoying the home for many more to come.
