Sumptuously Southern Supports Local Economy
There is a lot of goodwill being poured into Nashville’s Southern Living Showcase Home at Dorset Park opening October 21 in southern Davidson County. From Ronald McDonald House Charities Nashville as the benefiting charity to custom cabinets being produced by Pegram, Tennessee’s Larsen Cabinet Shop, efforts are continually being made to support the local economy when possible according to builder Alan Looney, president of Castle Homes.
Designer Jerome Farris, who is weaving his magic in the home’s Living Room, considers it a personal mission with his contributions to the project. Based at Peddler Interiors in Murfreesboro, Farris said supporting local craftspeople, artisans and sub-contractors does not compromise the design integrity of any project.
“Quite the opposite. Nothing is more sumptuously southern than showcasing local talent. Having survived more than one economic downturn, I always make it a personal priority to support local, Tennessee and American in my design decisions. If knowing my choice of a drapery fabricator, in this case Diane’s Interior Creations in Murfreesboro, can help boost the employment locally, it makes every project even more special.”
Not compromising in creativity, Farris is using a stunning muted zebra fabric as draperies for the living room. Found by Farris at one of his regular trips to the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center (ADAC) in Atlanta, he said the fabric, a yummy blend of linen and silk velvet, is a brand-new line by Texture, Inc., a New York-based éditeur and distributor of silk and linen fabrics to the home decorative industry.
Artwork by local favorite Harold Krauss will be featured in the room as well as a special Jamali, a Winter Park, Florida artist, being used above the impressive stone fireplace.
All furniture and furnishing for the Southern Living Showcase Living Room are found through Peddler Interiors, an 8,000 square foot store in Murfreesboro, celebrating their 40th year of business in 2012. The area’s only Southern Living Showcase Home will be open for public tours October 21 – November 6, 2011.
